Tecumseh Lodge History

Camps

There have been a dozen or more camps related to Tecumseh Lodge and its predecessors, and this is where we're going to gather all the information we can on them. But, sadly, we aren't very far along on that yet. Please check back later, or better yet, share what you know.

Camp Rad-a-Wood

Camp Rad-a-Wood (or Radawood) was owned and operated by the Central Ohio Council, and was located on the west edge of Marysville in Union County. The camp was a long, narrow rectangle 21.42 acres in total situated directly south of the Wendy's on W. 5th St. It extended south along what is now Palm Drive to around Maranatha Drive. The northern portion of the camp, including a small lake and wooded area, still exists as part of Aldersgate Park. The rest is now residential.

The camp was established between 1950 and 1955. The first known references to the camp are from 1955, including an article in the October 6th Richwood Gazette and its appearance on a Paris Township plat map. An October 2nd, 1956 article from the Marysville Journal-Tribune refers to ox roasts held there in "previous years," implying it may have opened a couple of years earlier.

The camp had limited amenities, including several Adirondaks. It saw use for weekend campouts and district activities, but was too small to be used for larger events.

Camp Rad-a-Wood was closed in 1992.
